I've been a linux user for some time and, over the years, I come upon a program or the proper use of a configuration file and I have to slap my head at not realizing sooner. So I figured for my benefit and yours I will start documenting my findings, when I find them, on this page.
-------------------------------------
Configuring /etc/hosts:
Editing this file, as root, will allow you to set the hostnames for any of the machine you have on your network. For instance:
So the beauty of having this kind of setup is that when you want to SSH into another computer on your network, as long as it's IP address and a hostname are placed in the file, you'll be able to simply run $ssh user@Server and it'll automatically replace the word 'Server' with the IP address corresponding to Server from the /etc/hosts file.
-------------------------------------
Finding and KILLing a rouge program:
This will be for that time when you need to find a program that may be running wild in the background of your system but not using enough system resources to be ranked in top.
The PID will be shown to you after the first step IF the program was found.
